This was part of a printmaking tribute to Herman Melville — less than 8 copies exist. 2 were sent to the University of Oxford.
200 years after the birth of Herman Melville, the Bodleian Bibliographical Press seeks a collaboration with printers everywhere to honour the author by printing parts of 'Moby-Dick; or, The Whale' (1851).
The aim is to collectively print the introductory section, 'Extracts. Supplied by a sub-sub librarian.' The Bodleian Libraries will aim to display portions of this new collection online and in a public display late in 2019/early 2020. The project is also opportunity to reflect upon our relationship with whales in the 21st century.
